School Days - reminiscing with Chriss

Created by Hazel 2 years ago

Chriss Hart undoubtedly spent more time with Liz in the last few years than anyone else! She visited mum twice a week, to help with shopping and other daily tasks, but also to go for walks, and do the crossword. This is posted on behalf of Chriss...

School Days

Liz went to Queen Elizabeth Girls' Grammar School in Barnet London. Liz remembers vividly the school was next to the police station that had the air raid warning siren on its roof and how loud it was.
When the sirens sounded, all the youngest year students were ushered down to the cellar under the school, Liz being one. Liz still remembers the damp musty smell and how one time they had to spend the whole day down there.
Liz recalls one young girl and her family were casualties of the bombings. Unfortunately they were in their house at the time of the attack and not in a shelter. There was also the school horse who was believed to have suffered a heart attack from shock, apparently he was very old.
